3 things I wish I knew before starting my high-risk pregnancy journey
1. You will experience good and bad emotions…and that’s ok!
The hormonal and physical changes a high-risk pregnancy brings can trigger intense emotions such as sadness and irritability. It’s completely normal to experience a range of emotions during pregnancy. The negative ones will not make you a bad parent.
2. The pregnancy experience of your friends and family may not apply to you.
You may find great comfort in talking to your friends and family about your pregnancy and may even go to them for advice. But unless they are a maternal health professionals, their pregnancy knowledge is probably limited to their own experience. If you start talking about a symptom they have never heard of or had, their feedback could trigger feelings of confusion, fear and doubt.
3. You are MUCH STRONGER than you think!
Growing a human life for almost a year is not a simple task! It requires you to work every single day, regardless if you’re exhausted or sick! It’s magical and miraculous and only possible because of you!
I hope is by sharing what I learned during my high-risk pregnancy journey, it will help other high-risk pregnancies patients during their experience.
